Active Tendon Control of Cable-stayed Bridges: Theory and Implementation
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper presents a strategy for active damping of cablestayed bridges, using active tendons. The first part of the paper summarizes the theoretical background: the control law is briefly presented together with the main results of an approximate linear theory, which allows to predict the closed-loop poles with a root locus technique. The second part of the paper reports on experimental results obtained with a 30m long cable-stayed bridge mock-up built on the reaction wall of the ELSA test facility at the JRC Ispra (Italy); this test structure is used to demonstrate the practical implementation of the control strategy with hydraulic actuators. Finally, some potential full-scale applications are identified, concerning temporary active systems for bridges under construction, and permanent systems for suspension bridges.

DESIGN OPTIMIZATION OF CABLE-STAYED BRIDGES USING MOMENTUM SEARCH ALGORITHM
Design optimization of cable-stayed bridges is a challenging optimization problem because a large number of variables is usually involved in the optimization process. For these structures the design variables are cross-sectional areas of the cables. In this study, an efficient metaheuristic algorithm namely, momentum search algorithm (MSA) is used to optimize the design of cable-stayed bridges....
متن کاملMotion Based Design of Cable-Stayed Bridges
Recent increases in limit spans of cable-stayed bridges have highlighted the need for new concepts in analysis and design. The increased flexibility requires more theoretical studies on non-linear behavior and on dynamic analysis. Design also is more oriented to a performance-based approach: motion control is more important than strength analysis. My main objective is to define what are the par...
متن کاملA New Multiconstraint Method for Determining the Optimal Cable Stresses in Cable-Stayed Bridges
Cable-stayed bridges are one of the most popular types of long-span bridges. The structural behaviour of cable-stayed bridges is sensitive to the load distribution between the girder, pylons, and cables. The determination of pretensioning cable stresses is critical in the cable-stayed bridge design procedure. By finding the optimum stresses in cables, the load and moment distribution of the bri...
